We recently completed a combined roofing and solar project for Caroline S. in Chester New Jersey.

Caroline’s 25 year old roof was on its last legs and had developed leaks. Her biggest concern was what to do with her 10-year old solar panels on the back of her house – the panels were working OK, but they didn’t cover the whole of her household electrical costs.roofing and solar project, before and after

We told Caroline that the roof needed replacing and that we could put back the old panels, but we also explained that new solar panels were more efficient, now carry a better warranty and even look nicer than the ones currently installed.

How much more efficient? Our estimates show that Caroline will likely save an additional $300/month on her electricity bill while getting another $400/month in SREC rebates. Solar renewable energy credits (SRECs) are tradable credits that represent all the clean energy benefits of electricity generated from a solar energy system. Each time a solar energy system generates 1,000 kWh (1MWh) of electricity, an SREC is issued which can then be sold or traded separately from the power.

After considering her options decided to hire George J Keller & Sons to replace the entire roof and all the solar panels. Caroline choose a premier GAF Camelot shingle, which is GAF’s top-of-the-line designer shingle, paired with LG 300 watt solar panels one of LG’s best-selling, high-efficiency panels.
